Privacy Policy

This is a starting template and not legal advice. Given that we handle location, photos, and biometric verification data, have this reviewed by a licensed attorney before launch.

Information we collect

• Account: email address, password (hashed), and date of birth.
• Profile: the display name, bio, photos, and attributes you choose to share.
• Location: the ZIP code you provide, which we convert to an approximate area. We never show your exact location to other members — only a rough distance range.
• Verification: if you request a verified badge, a selfie you submit for review. It is deleted promptly after review — we keep only the result.
• Usage: log data such as IP address and activity needed to operate and secure the Service.

How we use it

• To run the Service — show your profile, suggest matches, and enable messaging.
• To keep the community safe — verify age, review reports, and prevent abuse.
• To process subscription payments (via Stripe).
• To send account and activity notifications (verification, matches, messages).

What other members see

Other members see your display name, age, photos, bio, chosen attributes, city/state, and a bucketed distance. They never see your email address, exact location, or date of birth.

Biometric data

Photo verification involves a selfie that may constitute a biometric identifier under laws such as the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act. We use it solely to confirm you match your photos, we do not sell it, and we delete the selfie after review, retaining only the pass/fail result. Verification is optional and requires your consent.

Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers who help us operate (e.g., Stripe for payments, our email and storage providers), and when required by law or to protect safety.

Your rights

You can access and update your profile at any time, and delete your account. Depending on where you live (e.g., California and other U.S. states), you may have rights to access, delete, or opt out of certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact privacy@freedomdates.com.

Data retention & security

We keep data as long as your account is active or as needed to operate and comply with law. Passwords are hashed, sessions are stored securely, and photos are served privately. No system is perfectly secure.
